Bizarre Shots for
Ft. Ord Trainees

Fort Ord,
Monterey county

An Army platoon sergeant and an enlisted medic have been placed under restriction here pending investigation of reports they inexplicably injected sterile water into the scrotums of three and possibly a dozen training recruits from Hawaii.
The Army officially acknowledged yesterday that a high-level inquiry is under way but declined to release the names, either of the men under restriction or the trainees who were so "treated."
Army spokesmen said at least three trainees showed needle marks.
Colonel J. L. Bradley, post surgeon at Ford Ord, said no medical complications resulted from what Army spokesmen described as "improper immunization."
According to Army spokesmen, the episode last week was witnessed — and promptly halted — by a non-commissioned officer in the post infirmary who then reported the incident.
The trainees are members of an "All Hawaii" unit of 186 men, recruited in the islands and brought to Ford Ord for training.
